There’s something about eating a cold desert or snack on a warm summer night. As a kid (and adult) I loved ice cream and frozen deserts. Didn’t really matter what flavor it was, as long as it was cold and sweet, I was happy. If you’re like me, you’re gonna love this one.

I discovered this recipe last year when I started using this magnesium powder. It has such a great flavor to it compared to others I’ve tried. I was in a grape freezing phase and decided to combine the two to create a snack that’s refreshing, delicious, and has added health benefits.

With summer just around the corner, I figured this recipe would be perfect to drop right now. I also thought this would be a good Earth Month post, since the grapes kind of look like little earths! 🌎

frozen grapes with magnesium

Similar to the sleepy girl mocktail recipe I posted, the secret ingredient in these frozen grapes is the Magic Magnesium powder from Wooden Spoon Herbs. This powder has a blue lemonade flavor, which gives the grapes that sour outside that compliments the sweet inside. It’s a match made in heaven! It reminds me of a sour candy or a tangy sorbet. If you have a nighttime sweet tooth, this will do the trick.

Why would I add magnesium powder to frozen grapes you ask? Magnesium is a nutrient that serves many functions and benefits, including calming the nerves and promoting restful sleep. The magnesium powder is part of why I like having this as a sweet treat before bed. To read more on the health benefits of magnesium, check out this blog post:

I appreciate a snack that you can keep on hand. This is also a great use for grapes that are about to go bad. We love a food waste-fighting recipe!

For storage, I like to keep mine in a Stasher bag in the freezer. I use these things for everything. They’re reusable, food safe, and easy to clean. You can find them at many major grocery stores now, but I order mine on EarthHero (code KAYLA10 gets you a discount!).

The magnesium powder sticks to these pretty easily, which is nice because you don’t want that to go to waste. You could even try this with other fruit too and I’m sure the results would be similar, but the taste of this probably goes best with grapes. I prefer green, but you can use any grapes you’d like.

Sour Candy Frozen Grapes

This fun snack is not only super tasty but great for promoting relaxation before bed. A great thing to keep stocked in your freezer for hot summer nights!
Prep Time 10 minutes
Freeze Time 4 hours

Equipment

  • 1 bag or container for storage

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grapes
  • 2 tsp Magic Magnesium powder

Instructions

  • Wash your grapes thoroughly. I recommend soaking them in water with a little vinegar for 10 minutes, then rinsing them off really well.
  • After the grapes are washed, put them into a bag or container. Add your magnesium powder and shake and mix to coat all of the grapes.
  • Stick them in the freezer for at least 4 hours, then enjoy!

Notes

I don’t usually eat all of the grapes in one sitting, but with the amount of magnesium powder used here it’s safe to have all of them if you’d like. Be careful with adding in extra magnesium though, as it can cause digestive issues if consumed in large amounts (not medical advice, just my educated opinion!).

I hope you enjoy this snack as much as I do! If you try it let me know what you think (:
